Journey & Healing: Trauma in LGBTQIA+ Communities
April 30, 2021 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are more likely to face a traumatic stressor than a member of the general population. Examples of those stressors include hate crimes, lack of adequate health care, family disconnectedness, and partner violence.
NEIPJC’s expert panel discussion will consider the effects of the LGBTQIA+ journey on mental health and the traumas faced, delve into the reasons for the increased amount of stressors, learn how the specialization of affirmative therapy supports healing, and discover how allies can support the LGBTQIA+ community in their journey and their healing from the trauma they face.
The panel will feature Damien Gonsalves, a licensed marriage and family therapist with a specialization and several years experience supporting the LGBTQIA+ community using affirmative therapy with a compassionate solution-oriented therapy.
