The Pronoun Education Project hopes to educate Northeast Iowa community members on pronoun usage and gender identity. We want to normalize the sharing of pronouns to make sure our transgender and non-binary friends feel accepted, safe, and recognized.
This project starts with pronouns, but hopes to grow with more events on LGBTQIA+ related topics that will educate/inform community members. There are so many ways we as a community can provide an intentionally safe space for our LGBTQIA+ friends.
Pronoun Education Project Webinars!
Here are a few resources about gender identity and pronouns.
Did you miss our webinar, Journey & Healing: Trauma in LGBTQIA+ Communities? Not to worry, you can watch right now on our NEIPJC YouTube channel!
Summary: Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are more likely to face a traumatic stressor than a member of the general population. Examples of those stressors include hate crimes, lack of adequate health care, family disconnectedness, and partner violence. NEIPJC’s expert panel discussion will consider the effects of the LGBTQIA+ journey on mental health and the traumas faced, delve into the reasons for the increased amount of stressors, learn how the specialization of affirmative therapy supports healing, and discover how allies can support the LGBTQIA+ community in their journey and their healing from the trauma they face.
